In the case of one season 2 antagonist, however, this change was unexpected, yet undeniably a better one when brought to light.
Among the rogues’ gallery introduced in One Piece season 2 is Mr. 3, the Baroque Works operator famous for his comically eccentric hair and Wax-Wax Fruit powers. With his character being portrayed by David Dastmalchian, it was sure to play up his eccentricities in the best of ways. But now Mr. 3’s sense of decor matches his absurd hairstyle.

The One Piece manga and anime series portrayed Mr. 3’s wax house as a rudimentary cabin-like structure where he could communicate with Crocodile. But with One Piece’s latest glimpse shared by the Netflix series’ social media accountfans get to see the live-action treatment resembling an elegant tropical villa.
From the eaves hanging over the doors, to the potted plants, curtains in the windows, and overall ornate design, Mr. 3’s wax house prioritizes style just as much as it allows function. While it’s yet to be seen whether Sanji will have the nerve to answer 3’s transponder slug and jokingly call it “Restaurant LeCrap”, this change ultimately makes sense.For the sake of comparison, Mr. 3’s wax house looked like this in the manga and anime:
Aside from indicating that Mr. 3 brought his architectural touch to the world of anime like Tsutomu Nihei, it is more lore-accurate. After all, his artistic sensibilities are clearly on display with the elaborate wax birthday cake prison he’ll use to trap the Straw Hats. But Mr. 3’s wax house teases one other season 2 surprise.

With the live-action series teasing glorious glimpses at the vast expanses of One Piece season 2’s incredible destinations, this latest one feels more limited. Yet, it’s surprisingly packed with meaning, fully appreciating the eccentricities of one of Baroque Works’ greatest misunderstood members.
With Netflix’s One Piece season 2 bringing the heat, it’s uncertain whether ornate wax houses will weather the scrutiny of fans. It’s a beautiful glow-up, but those loyal to the series have been quick to dismiss other changes to the series. But it’s a worthwhile, harmless adjustment that adds a sense of flair even to Mr. 3’s field operations sensibilities.
