Last year on the Love Is Blind reunion, the Netflix hit introduced the world to singer Alex Warren. This year, it’s trying again with (checks notes) Myles Smith. The reunion episode of LIBwhich aired on Big Red on October 29, began with Nick and Vanessa Lachey introducing Smith, the man who might be soundtracking your next six months, if the proliferation of Warren’s “Ordinary” is any indication. Smith sang his song “Nice to meet you” as the stars of the Denver-based season nine entered the arena. The song itself is by-the-books “stomp-clap” core — it doesn’t sound much different than Smith’s likely inspirations Noah Kahan, the Lumineers, or Mumford & Sons. Even on the show, the song is designed to fade into the background as the Lacheys reintroduce the participants. Typically, we’d assume we could forget about the random guy who sang at the Love Is Blind reunion. But Alex Warren proved that we cannot.
Earlier this year, on March 9, Love Is Blind aired the Minneapolis reunion, which featured a performance by the Hype House co-founder. At that point, Warren was mostly known as a TikTok star, not a crooner. Warren sang his sleepy romantic ballad “Ordinary,” which was then just beginning to rise on the Spotify charts. “I’m sure this performance is a big deal to some viewers,” Vulture wrote in the recap at the time. It was. Due to the boost from the LIB reunion, “Ordinary” skyrocketed up the charts, for Billboardultimately hitting No. 1 on the “Hot 100” and becoming the official song of the summer.
Now, Smith is trying to re-create that magic. When they introduced him, the Lacheys claimed that it was Smith already a “multiplatinum” recording artist, despite his being a virtual unknown in the US That’s because he’s actually UK-based, where “Nice to Meet You” already peaked at No. 6 on the singles chart back in January. But Stateside, Smith’s song has only reached No. 62 so far. (His biggest hit in the US is actually “Stargazing,” which entered the top 20 on April 30, hitting No. 19.)
So, will Myles Smith get the Alex Warren boost? The biggest thing working against him is that Warren got a pretty extended solo spot at the end of the show, and Smith didn’t have that benefit. Then again, he did sing right at the top of the show, and it’s possible that everyone just tuned out after learning early on that Sparkle Megan did in fact have a baby. Myles Smith, let’s see what Love Is Blind can do for you.
