Unlike other spin-off manga, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo hasn’t given fans much insight into what happened to many of their favorite characters after the main story. Because of this, the sneak peek of Yuji Itadori in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter #6 brought great enthusiasm from fans eager to see more of him. Sadly, Yuji’s triumphant return has been undermined.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo chapter #7 sees the return of one of the series’ greatest villains, Mahito. Tsurugi interacts briefly with Mahito before waking up in the hospital, who seems to have confused him with Yuji. However, while Mahito’s appearance gives a big revelation about Yuji, it has been overshadowed by the presence and impact this cursed spirit has on fans.
Fans Missed the Best Part of Mahito’s Appearance
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo led fans to believe that Mahito had been reincarnated and would return as an antagonist. However, Mahito’s true purpose may be to reveal that Yuji is still alive. Following Cross’s rescuing Tsurugi, his near-death experience may have let him temporarily touch the space between dream and reality where Mahito remained at the end of Jujutsu Kaisen‘s manga.
Furthermore, Mahito seems to have been expecting Yuji, meaning he hasn’t yet traveled the path of souls. While Yuji was presumed dead due to that Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo taking place 68 years in the future, this has not been officially confirmed. Therefore, Mahito’s appearance proves that he is likely waiting for Yuji so they can be reincarnated at the same time.
“I’ll just kill you. And if you’re ever reborn again as a new curse, I’ll kill you then, too. You can change your name, change your appearance, but I’ll still kill you again and again. – Yuji Itadori
Yuji promised to kill Mahito in his next life and every time he reincarnates, which makes the cursed spirit an incredible way to foreshadow the protagonist’s imminent return in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo. Unfortunately, Mahito’s presence was too strong and has made this subtle hint go unnoticed by many fans of the series.
Why Is Yuji Itadori Alive in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo
Yuji’s body wasn’t completely human after ingesting the Death Paintings. This was evidenced by his blood manipulation, which even allowed Yuji to reattach his leg during the fight against Sukuna. Additionally, Choso is said to have lived over 150 years. As a result, if Yuji’s body acquired similar properties to a Death Painting, he could also share their long lifespan.
Nevertheless, while Yuji settling his fight with Mahito would give closure to the character, it’s still too early to tell. Given that Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo focuses on the descendants of Yuta and Maki and their interaction with the Simurian race, Yuji could only have a supporting role, perhaps as a sort of mentor to the new generation of jujutsu sorcerers.
However, Mahito is destined to return, as he represents humanity’s hatred and fear. Given that in Jujutsu Kaisen‘s ending, Mahito refers to himself as a kind of vestige, it’s also possible that another part of him has reincarnated and will return in some form in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulowhich could be an exciting development fans should look forward to.
