Badlands First Reactions Are In

The first reactions to Predator: Badlands are in ahead of the movie’s release on November 7. Whereas previous installments have seen the titular character hunt humans, Badlands will see the predator himself become the prey. With the help of a damaged Weyland-Yutani Thia (Ella Fanning), the outcast goes on a journey to search for his ultimate adversary.

Now, just over a week before its theatrical release, some critics and pundits saw the new Predator installment and shared their overwhelmingly positive thoughts. User @thebrosgeekout lauds Badlands as”one hell of an action ride,“noting that it’s”a brutal, emotional journey of a Predator finding acceptance.

Critical film Josh Barton thought that it wasyou good“but argued that Badlands could be Dan Trachtenberg’s”weakest work in the franchise yet.“Nevertheless, he agrees that the new Predator installment “delivers yet more thrilling action in this world.

Dexerto’s deputy editor Eammon Parks Jacobs commented on the “cosmic buddy road movie“neither”all killer no filler,” praising Trachtenberg’s smart direction in upping the scale rather than just sticking to the franchise’s usual formula.

Journalist film Gavin Spoors was surprised by the movie’s comedic and heart-warming nature, but shares that “for the most part it works.”

Podcaster Neil Vagg doubles down on similar sentiments from other reviewers, saying that Badlands brings “the franchise out of horror and presenting a straight up sci-fi adventure,” which turns into a “crowd pleasing spectacle.

User Nicole’s Film Perspectives also called Badlandsaction packed adventure.“They praised Fanning as the standout in the movie,”who not only captivates you but keeps you on your toes.

While these are first reactions, official reviews probably won’t be available until closer to the movie’s release. Nevertheless, there is high anticipation for Predator: Badlandsespecially due to the franchise experiencing a rejuvenation in recent years. A major reason for that is Trachtenberg’s creative involvement.

After his work on 10 Cloverfield LaneTrachtenberg became a creative asset in the Predator franchise, with his reign starting with the 2022 Hulu movie Prey. The prequel became a huge streaming success and resurrected the hype for the franchise after several underwhelming installments.

That success continued with the R-rated animated movie Predator: Killer of Killerswhich was also directed by Trachtenberg That entry also scored positive reviews, which earned it a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

After BadlandsTrachtenberg revealed that he has one more Predator in development. While speaking with SFX Magazinehe revealed that he had started to think about more sequels and had three ideas after that Prey was released: “Killers is one, Badlands is two and the third one is something else.“Although the director has yet to confirm what the third mysterious movie is, it’s speculated to be Prey 2.

While folks wait for the first reviews and Rotten Tomatoes for Predator: Badlandsthe new installment will be released in theaters on November 7. It will be the first Predator movie to do so since 2018’s The Predator. Prey will also get its first theatrical screening as a double feature with Badlands.
