Taylor Sheridan will be getting an “unprecedented” payday as he leaves Paramount and heads to NBCUniversal. This is a significant shakeup for the industry, especially given how important Taylor Sheridan’s shows have been for Paramount. His shows there included Yellowstone, 1923, Tulsa King, Mayor of Kingstownand Lioness.
Sheridan’s television contract with Paramount will remain until 2028. In January 2029, his five-year TV deal with NBCUniversal will begin, but his movie deal with NBCUniversal starts much earlier, as it kicks off in 2026.
According to Deadlinethe lucrative deal that convinced Sheridan to leave Paramount for NBCUniversal is reportedly in the $1 billion territory. This amount, which comes from his creator, executive producer, and writer fees, is contingent on Sheridan creating 20 shows for NBC and Peacock as planned.
Sheridan’s move comes in the aftermath of Paramount Global and Skydance Media’s merger, along with the company’s leadership change, with David Ellison now in charge. Changes at Paramount contributed to Sheridan’s decision to leave, especially as he was sought after by other streamers.
While he ultimately landed at NBCUniversal, Warner Bros. Discovery, Amazon, and Netflix were all interested in bringing Sheridan to their respective streaming services. Choosing NBCUniversal is a major boost for Peacock as it competes against the likes of HBO Max, Prime Video, and Netflix.
Nor for what this means for Yellowstone and its many spinoffs, they will remain on Paramount+. Taylor Sheridan will be creating new shows outside the Yellowstone universe for NBCUniversal and Peacock, which he has already done before with the likes of Tulsa King, Mayor of Kingstownand Lioness.
