2025 Gotham Awards Nominations: List Of Movie Nominees

Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another leads all nominations for the Gotham Awards, the NYC event that opens the movie awards season, although star Leonardo DiCaprio was snubbed in the top acting category.

The Warner Bros. thriller saw a record six noms — for Best Feature, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Breakthrough Performer for Chase Infiniti, and Outstanding Supporting Performance for both Benicio Del Toro and Teyana Taylor.

Mary Bronstein’s If I Had Legs I’d Kick You from A24 garnered four nominations in Best Feature, Director, Original Screenplay and Outstanding Lead Performance for Rose Byrne.

Neon’s Cannes Palme d’Or winner It Was Just An Accident by Jafar Panahi landed three noms — for International Feature, Director and Original Screenplay. The distributor’s No Other Choice by Park-Chan-wook also had a trifecta with noms in International Feature, Adapted Screenplay and Outstanding Lead Performance for Lee Byung-hun.

Bugonia and Hamnet (both Focus Features), East of Wall (Sony Pictures Classics), Familiar Touch (Music Box Films), Lurker (Mubi), Sorry, Baby (A24), The Testament of Ann Lee (Searchlight Pictures) and Train Dreams (Netflix) also landed Best Feature nominations. The Gothams expanded its Best Feature category this year to include 10 nominees, up from five.

Neon, A24, Mubi, Warner Bros. and Netflix topped the nominations, which were spread among 40 features and 25 performances in 10 categories.

“This year’s nominees celebrate an extraordinary year of cinematic achievement — one defined by bold, original storytelling, festival breakouts, and filmmakers whose independent vision extends across studios and streamers. This year’s Gotham nominees, and our Gotham Tributes, reflect the year’s most accomplished filmmakers and performers and embody the community that has defined The Gothams for 35 years,” said Jeffrey Sharp, Executive Director of the Gotham Film & Media Institute.

The Gotham Awards aim to elevate independent film and it does spread the wealth among smaller films and distributors. But it eliminated a budget cap for eligibility in 2023 ahead of its 33rd edition, opening the door for big-budget fare from major studios to compete. Previously, budgets could not exceed $35 million.

Nominees were selected by committees of film critics, journalists, festival programmers and film curators. Separate juries of writers, directors, actors, producers, editors and other industry professionals will determine the winners. They will be unveiled at an awards ceremony December 1 at Cipriani Wall Street in Lower Manhattan.

As reported, the Gothams will also present Tribute Awards to Noah Baumbach, Tessa Thompson, the cast of Sinners and Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein.
