EXCLUSIVE: Archstone Entertainment has picked up world rights to Cookbook for Southern Housewivesa feature from 19-year-old filmmaker Josie Hull, which features the last on-screen performance from the late actor Michael Madsen.
Set in the gritty underbelly of the American South, the film spans 1969-1973 and follows Bonnie Carson, a restless housewife stuck in a passionless marriage. Tired of her monotonous life and longing for something more, she finds herself falling for a charming mobster who sweeps her into the ruthless world of the Dixie Mafia.
The film was written and directed by Hull, who penned the screenplay at 18. She directed and produced the film the following year.
Starring alongside Madsen in his official last role are Michael Evans Behling (All American), David Koechner (Anchorman franchise) and Shahadi Wright Joseph (Us), with Lindsay Shiner leading in her feature debut.
Speaking of the pic, Madsen’s manager, Ron Smith, said: “The last film Michael made was Cookbook for Southern Housewives. Having seen it, we know he would have been incredibly proud of the work and the project. This was a role he was genuinely excited to tackle, and he embraced it with his signature dedication and passion. One thing that stood out to him was the energy of the set. He truly loved working alongside such young and dynamic filmmakers.”
Archstone will present Cookbook for Southern Housewives to worldwide buyers at the American Film Market next month. Other recent acquisitions from the company include Chili Fingersstarring Bryan Cranston (The Studio), John Goodman (The Righteous Gemstones), Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings), and Judy Greer (13 Going on 30), which the company is representing for international sales.
