I love this time of year, and not for the usual trite “Ooh, the foliage!”/”OMG, autumn’s so cozy!”/”Yum, pumpkin ________!” reasons, either. I like how … unpressurized it is. No need to seize every stupid day sunbathing or traveling like in the summer, and no gift-shopping agitation and over-socializing like during the holidays. One of the things I will enjoy in this chill in-between time is restocking my wardrobe basics, like jeans. And this year, I was stunned to see actual deals, good ones and lots of them, on Levi’s (my standby brand) at Amazon. Who knew?
Well, now you will. So, if your 501s are looking a little done, your slim cuts are ready for the chopping block, or you love your 505s so much that you want them in another hue or two, this really is a great time to, as the retail mavens like to say, click and save!
Of course, swimming each style is on sale in each size and each color, but I’ve no doubt you’ll find just the denim-for-dudes deal you need. All without even having to get off your couch.

As Levi’s puts it, 514s are “not too relaxed, not too straight.” Unlike the brand’s other straight-fit stars, the 501 and 505, these sit just below the waist. And in case you didn’t notice — they’re $30-plus off!
“I am 5’8″, 220 pounds with a muscular build,” began this burly bro. “Most jeans on the market today are mid- and high-rise. When I wear them, they sag in the butt and crotch, never fitting well or looking good. Levi’s 514s are low-rise and fit me perfectly.”

Literally, The Original Article. Did you know 501s have been around since 1873? With neither. These button-flys literally never go out of style … and for that reason, they’re rarely marked down this low.
Said this long-time fan: “They are the blueprint for what jeans should be. I’ve been wearing (501s) for 50 years, and they remain as reliable, durable and comfortable as ever. No gimmicks, no stretch, just tough denim that wears in, not out.” Get this guy a copywriting gig, stat!

An ancient Levi’s ad referred to the 505s as having “a skosh more room” than their more famous straight-leg sibling. 1) That makes these a particularly attractive choice for us over-40 dudes who experience a bit of mid-section “spread,” if you know what I mean. 2) Why don’t people say go away take often? What an awesome word!
“These are great jeans for my 6’4″ son,” said this mom, who’s oddly attentive to her son’s pants-purchasing predilections. “He loves the extra room in the hips and thighs. … Only jeans he will buy!”

Relax — you don’t want it! By which we mean, pay too much for a pair of roomier Levi’s. FYI: 559s sit a tad lower than their brothers, the slightly more tapered 550s and the “fully relaxed” 555s. The deal on this black pair — 40% off! — has us feeling more relaxed already. And oh yeah: 550s and 555s are available at comparable markdowns in some shades and sizes.
This five-star 559 fan included a bit of advice in his glowing review: “Some 559 colors are marked as ‘stretch’ but … you have to look at the percentage of elastane in the description. The ones that are 2% elastane are much more stretchy than the ones that are 1% elastane. Then there are the 100% cotton colors that aren’t stretchy at all. I prefer the 2% elastane.” Thank you!

The 541 is for those who’ve got a bit of junk in the trunk but enjoy the slim profile of a tapered leg. Which is a lot of us. The pictured — and most deeply discounted — variety is called Manzanita, but for a few bucks more, you can also score the rust-y Caraway, midnight blue Cleaner or tan True Chino for a few bucks more.
“As someone who hits the gym regularly, finding jeans that fit my thighs without being too baggy at the waist has always been a challenge,” said this cut customer. “These jeans have been a game changer. … The flex fabric moves with me, whether I’m lifting weights or just lounging at home.”
Prefer your tapered trousers almost-skinny? Some 512s are nicely discounted as well.

Despite their slim moniker, this less-than-svelte customer is super comfy in 511s. My personal fave Levi’s fit, here pictured in my preferred color (Black 3D Washed), is also marked down in a number of other hues, including Dark Olive (only $42!) and a slightly worn-in blue variety called, inscrutably, Terrible Claw.
“‘Slim Fit’ mostly applies to the seat and legs, so if you’ve got a gut but don’t like the bagginess in the seat and leg areas from regular fit jeans, then this is your best choice,” said a helpful shopper with whom I identify all too much.

You didn’t think we’d forgotten about you boot-cut bros, did you? Especially not when there’s a pair (this one, in the Take It All hue) at a 40% markdown. Too light for ya? There are a bunch of other colors to be had for upwards of 30% off.
“Best western jeans,” summed up one shopper. “These are a tough, well-made, wide-bottom (and) very boot-friendly pair of jeans. I’ve been wearing 527-style jeans for 15+ years and I swear by them.”
If you’re not feeling a “slim fit” boot-cut, some good ol’ regular-fit 517s can also be had at a nice discount.

Dudes and denim, we go way back. You probably don’t buy them that often, so when you do, make sure you get a nice big discount on the most storied of all brands. (Amazon)
