Jent has 24 years of experience as a firefighter.
What happened
Police said a man drove a pickup truck through the front doors of the church before getting out and shooting with an assault rifle. He also set the building on fire.
After the shooting, the suspect was confronted by an officer from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and a Grand Blanc Township police officer who had responded to the scene within a minute of the first 911 call.
Police said the suspect was shot and killed in the parking lot.
Four people, not including the shooter, died in the attack. Two were killed by gunfire, and two others were later found in the burning church.
The church was destroyed in the fire.
The FBI described the attack as “targeted violence” and has since taken over the investigation.
