Comfort is key, and what’s comfortable may vary with how active you are during the day. If you walk a lot, a sneaker will probably do you better than, say, a loafer or slip-on. But if you’re in an office setting, then those are probably better for you than a dressed-down sneaker.

Support: Some people need a whole lot of arch support for their shoes to be considered comfortable, and if that sounds like you, then pay attention to the heel drop of your shoe. Some styles, like Sorel and Flower Mountain, are designed with exceptional arch support in mind; others, like the ones from Veja and Vince, have pretty standard, basic designs that might not offer much support if you need some extra.
Style: A Reebok sneaker is a whole lot different from, say, the leather slip-ons from Tecovas. Consider where you’re going to wear your shoes most when buying; bars, parks, and weekend hang-outs are easily suited to sneaker styles, whereas for work and elevated events, something leather, like a slip-on or Chelsea boot, might serve you better.
