Another day, another historical movie theater is lost. As a result of President Trump’s proposed $300 million ballroom fixer-upperthe White House movie theater has been demolished. The East Wing demolition is “nearly complete,” CNBC confirmed on October 23, including the 42-seat White House movie theater built by President Roosevelt in 1942. According to a source from THRa new movie theater will eventually be built, as it will be “modernized and renovated with the rest of the East Wing.” However, there is no concrete information about when a new movie theater will be built or whether it will be any bigger than the previous one.

Hundreds of films have been screened since its conversion from a cloak room into a small theater, like President Trump’s viewing of Joker in 2019, and President Clinton’s Groundhog Day screening. The biggest cinephile to work in the White House was President Carter, who watched 480 movies while in office. Sir, you would’ve loved Letterboxd. While the demolition of the historical theater is depressing, there’s only one way to make the loss almost, sort of okay: Make the next White House movie theater 4DX.
