Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1‘s theatrical run has been nothing less than wildly impressive, breaking longstanding records with its global release, recently becoming the highest grossing international film ever in the United States. The movie has dominated the spotlight since its premiere this summer, but another established industry darling is bringing serious competition.

Chainsaw Man — The Movie: Reze Arc debuted with early screenings on October 22nd, and is currently playing a perfect score from critics on Rotten Tomatoesthreatening the throne Demon Slayer only just won for itself. With an audience score of 99%, it seems fans and critics are in agreement on anime’s latest major movie.

Chainsaw Man‘s first foray into theaters has been receiving glowing reviews from Japanese audiences, and it seems North American viewers agree. The film is the second anime production based on a Tatsuki Fujimoto manga to receive a perfect rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the first being 2024’s highly acclaimed Look Back.

As of now, Demon Slayer‘s historic first Infinity Castle movie is sitting at an extraordinarily high 98% rating, but Chainsaw Man has seemingly arrived to rain on its parade. The perfect score is currently based on 14 reviews from critics, and although many more are soon to join in, it’s a great start for anime’s newest blockbuster.

The Reze Arc movie originally premiered on September 19th in Japan, and has since spent five consecutive weeks in the number one spot at the Japanese box office. Although it will have to compete with the highly anticipated Deliver Me From Nowhere in the US, industry experts believe Chainsaw Man has a shot at number one this weekend.

Anime initially left its mark at the global box office in 2020, when Demon SlayerS ‘ Mugen Train became the highest-grossing Japanese movie in history. Five years later, Demon Slayer arrived in theaters once more to shatter its own records, and is now being followed up by Chainsaw Man‘s early striking earnings, currently at an estimated $70 million.

What was once a niche interest for anime fans outside of Japan is quickly proving itself a heavyweight mainstream form of entertainment. Chainsaw Man — The Movie: Reze Arc officially premieres in North American theaters on October 24th, and fans won’t want to miss what audiences and critics are currently raving about.
