These cloud-like sneakers could totally pass for Hokas, and they start at just $28

Even someone who wears sneakers almost every single day, I’d like to think that there’s an art to finding the perfect pair. For starters, they need to be stylish and comfortable, or they’ll take up permanent residence in the back of my closet. After all, the perfect pair of kicks needs to be versatile enough to play nice with everything from wide-leg jeans to leggings, but also handle 20,000-plus steps in a single day.

One Yahoo reader-loved brand that delivers in spades: Hoka. I love ’em too, but I can’t always justify spending $150 (or more) on a pair. So, I put on my deal-hunter cap and scoured Amazon for similarly cloud-like sneakers — and I found plenty of options. They all have plush, pillowy, Hoka-like soles as well as a breathable mesh exterior. Better yet? They start at just $28. Here are some of my favorites.

If you’re looking for something lightweight enough to wear every day, these kicks are just the thing. A removable insole provides arch support thanks to adhesive-backed pads, plus the rubber sole packs plenty of cushioning. While the black pair is least expensive, there are plenty of options to choose from, including a pretty pink and a stylish navy blue with magenta accents.

“I was skeptical about these shoes due to persistent plantar fasciitis,” shared one five-star reviewer. “However, I am very surprised at the level of comfort and overall arch and total foot support! Good investment without the Brooks or Hoka price tag. The test drive was wearing them on a vacation trip where we did a lot of walking.”

Who wants to bend over or fiddle with laces? These sneakers easily slip on and off, making them the ideal throw-on-and-go option for an errand run or just to walk to your mailbox. They have a high-density foam insole for additional arch support should you need it, plus the grippy rubber sole provides traction on slippery surfaces. They’re available in a bevy of shades (including plenty of neutrals), but I’m partial to this navy and sky blue gradient.

“I work 12-hour shifts in the hospital, (and) normally I’m spending $100-$275 on Brooks or Hokas,” shared one health care worker. “This is a great shoe! Wearing these, you’d never believe they are under $100. Love the slip-on and no laces! It’s spoiled me. I haven’t worn any other shoe in weeks. I’ve got three different colors. No regrets here!”

Tired of toe-pinching sneakers? These have a wide toe box, so your little piggies are free to stretch out, plus the cushy sole provides shock absorption and helps minimize impact on your joints. They also have a removable arch insert, which reviewers raved about.

“These are the best shoes ever!” shared one happy shopper. “I have plantar fasciitis, and my job requires me to periodically stand for hours at a time. These feel like I am walking on pillows! The arch support is amazing. Directions don’t tell you, but arch support is a sticker you can place. Buying another pair!”

I’d be remiss if I didn’t include an option for wider feet! These have a wide toe box, which provides more space for your forefoot and helps relieve toe pressure. A thicker midsole provides additional cushioning too. A number of reviewers suggest ignoring the brand’s sizing chart, instead ordering your usual size (or, if you prefer your sneakers a bit more snug, going down half a size).

“These shoes are awesome!” claimed one fleet-footed fan. “Lightweight, great support, cute color options and cushion with an arch support! Zero drop and wide toe box are a plus…(they) fit perfectly. Much better fit than my Hokas!”

If you live in a colder climate and don’t think you can get away with cloth sneakers in winter, these might be a great alternative. They have an iridescent, faux-leather exterior, plus a chunky sole that’s begging to be paired with a chunky sweater and wide-leg pants.

“I love these sneakers,” quipped a festive fan. “They are extremely comfortable. I wore them all day for carnival, (and) it was like walking on a cloud.”

If your chief complaint with Hoka sneakers (outside of the price) is that they come in some outrageous color combinations, these might be your alternative. The Ruidengs come in a number of wearable shades, like the stylish burgundy above (one of fall’s “it” colors, btw). They provide some extra height too — 2 extra inches. They are more of a buy-now, wear-later shoe — the exterior is canvas, so they probably won’t provide much warmth once the temps drop. That said, if you live in a more temperate climate, these will be great all year!

“I moonlight as a bartender a few times per month at a high-volume bar,” shared a five-star reviewer. “I can work in these for 8 hours or more without my feet hurting by the end of the night!”

We might not be able to walk on clouds — yet — but these might be the next best thing. The lightweight sole adds a spring in your step (without compromising on stability or support), and I’m a big fan of the breathable knit exterior.

“Love these sneakers,” shared a benevolent buyer. “I am a caregiver, and I am on my feet most of the time. These are super comfortable. And being a diabetic, it is very hard to find the perfect shoes. These are killer! I use them to do my walks too.”

These shockingly stylish slip-ons are perfect for just about whatever your day throws at you, thanks to a pillowy rubber sole, a soft woven mesh exterior and even a grippy outsole — just in case your day leads to a stroll through your local park.

“I work in the ER 12+ hours on my feet and so far these shoes have been amazing!” one health care professional noted. “So light and so comfortable. I was worried that without laces they wouldn’t feel secure enough for my narrow feet, and they’ve been great. I even went running in them and felt secure the whole time — no slipping.”

Here’s another pair for those of you who have a hard time with laces. The Xplors have bungee cord-style laces, so you don’t need to worry about tying. They’re also slip-resistant (good for linoleum floors!) and have a thick, cushioned sole for extra bounce and comfort.

“These shoes are very comfortable for both standing and walking, no break-in period at all,” noted a Cushionaire convert. “They are easy to step on and off without needing hands. The shoes are a little bulky but very lightweight and look cute.”

These chunky sneakers have the stamp of approval from those who know a thing or two about sturdy footwear: service-industry workers. In fact, the shoe is designed with them in mind, thanks to the anti-slip sole and a water-resistant exterior, perfect for fending off any minor spills.

“These shoes are a game-changer!” noted one part-time bartender. “I stand on my feet for seven straight hours … the price and quality are excellent! No more tired, sore feet at the end of my shift!”
