A woman has been left horrified after discovering her boyfriend has been living a secret double life behind her back – and there’s one detail that made her feel sick
Finding out your partner has been lying to you is never a nice feeling.
We all know that relationships are built on trust, and sometimes, this trust can be shattered when one party lies to the other about something big. In most cases, this breakdown of trust comes after you’ve been in a relationship with someone for a while and is most often associated with things like cheating.
But one woman has discovered that her boyfriend has actually been lying to her for the entirety of their six-month relationship. And the lie he’s been telling her isn’t small, nor has he been living a secret double life behind her back without telling her a word about what he’s really up to.
In a post on Reddit, the woman said that when she first started dating her partner, their relationship was very casual. She said he was a business owner and was “focused on getting his business stable”, so they would often just “hook up whenever he was free”. A few months in, she asked him if he was seeing anyone else or if he wanted to continue their relationship.
He claimed he had a medical problem which may prevent him from having children, and his head has been scrambled because he’s having surgery this week. She told him she would happily accompany him to the hospital, but he said he wanted to be by himself, so she respected that.
Recently, he was out of town for a funeral and messaged her out of the blue to say he would be taking her out to dinner when he got back. Then, he sent her a few pictures from his trip – and accidentally included one snap of himself with another woman.
She said: “I was excited but then after an hour, he sent me a few photos of places he has been to and at the very last photo was him and another woman. His arms were wrapped around her and the photo was obviously taken by his drone. I asked him if his mother came with him. The answer I got was ‘oh haha, that woman was really close to me’.”
The woman said she felt “disgusted” with herself after seeing the photo – but at first she believed he was cheating on her. The truth, however, was more sinister – the woman in the photo was his wife, and he had been living a secret double life for six months by starting up a relationship with her.
She added: “Now my friends and family are pushing me to contact his wife and tell her about the affair. In my mind, I think that I don’t want drama anymore, but then, at the same time, I feel bad because the wife is probably oblivious to everything. Morally, it is wrong, but then, at the same time, ignorance is bliss.”
Commenters on the post urged the woman to tell the man’s wife about their affair, as many said she deserves to know what her husband has been up to behind her back.
One person said: “The wife deserves to know she’s married to a cheater. You’re a good person who ended the relationship as soon as you found out. There also might be children involved that’s why he came up with the no kids story. Send her what proof you have. You don’t have to meet her or anything. Do it from a distance; always think of your safety first.”
Another added: “I was in your shoes many years ago and decided to walk away without saying anything because I didn’t want the drama and I didn’t want others to judge me (didn’t even tell my family!) I always regretted not messing up his life the way he messed up mine.”
