Jude Law rom-com fans call their ‘all time favorite’ now available to watch for free

The 2006 drama is airing on Channel 5 this evening (December 1) and it boasts an A-list cast including Kate Winslet and Jack Black

A delightful rom-com that’s been hailed as even more enchanting than Love Actually is set to grace our screens tonight (December 1).

The Holiday, featuring heartthrob Jude Law, will be broadcast on Channel 5 at 5:25 pm, perfect for a snug Sunday evening in.

The 2006 flick spins the tale of two women, one from the US and the other from the UK, who are left heartbroken after their relationships crumble.

Seeking a dash of festive cheer, they opt to exchange homes for the Christmas period. In classic rom-com fashion, the protagonists, played by Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet, stumble upon romance while on their respective breaks.

Penned and helmed by rom-com virtuoso Nancy Meyers, known for hits like The Parent Trap, Something’s Gotta Give, and It’s Complicated, The Holiday initially didn’t wow the critics. Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian gave it a meagre one-star rating, whereas Stella Papamichael from the BBC was slightly kinder with two stars, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Yet, despite lukewarm reviews, the film has secured a special place in the hearts of its admirers, who continue to cherish it almost two decades since its debut.

Loyal enthusiasts have taken to social media platforms to share their love for the movie, urging others to indulge in its festive charm. On X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, an ardent fan posted: “I watch The Holiday every year, as do many others, and while I adore Love Actually, I consider The Holiday to be superior.”

On Rotten Tomatoes, one movie buff wrote: “While it definitely follows the formula of Christmas rom-coms to the letter, Nancy Meyers’ The Holiday is elevated by its star-studded cast, charming performances, lovely cinematography, festive spirit and relatable central message.”

Another cinema enthusiast remarked: “Despite critical reviews this is a must-see, feel-good, Holiday movie. As the years pass this movie ages like a fine wine.”

And an eager fan expressed: “Easily one of my absolute all-time FAVORITE movies!!!!”

Meanwhile, in an eye-opening chat on BBC Radio 2’s The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show, actor Law dropped a bombshell about the classic film.

During the conversation, when asked if fans can book the iconic cottage from The Holiday on Airbnb, the 51 year old actor shocked listeners by saying: “That cottage doesn’t exist.”

The Holiday airs today on Channel 5 at 5:25pm
