Apple TV Secures 5-Year F1 Streaming Deal Following Brad Pitt Film’s $629M Success

Apple TV is doubling down on his commitment to Formula 1 after producing the hugely successful Brad Pitt film F1. The actor has appeared in such films as well Fight Club, Ocean’s Eleven, mr. & Mrs. Smith, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Pitt most recently starred in F1which grossed $629 million at the box office after its June 2025 release date. The summer hit will be available to stream on Apple TV beginning December 12.

According to VarietyApple just signed an agreement with Formula 1 to stream F1 races on its Apple TV streaming service over the next five years. The deal is reportedly worth $750 million, with Apple forking over about $150 million every year to keep the streaming rights.

A launch date for F1 on Apple TV hasn’t been announced yet, although it will occur sometime in 2026 and run through 2031, and Apple executive Eddy Cue hopes the tech company stays in business with F1 “forever.”

There’s no more incredible content than Formula 1. I think we’re gonna be gaining new fans. I hope we’re doing this forever.

The F1 TV Premium streaming service isn’t going away, but it will exist under the Apple TV banner in the future.

This major streaming deal comes as ESPN’s agreement with Formula 1 ends in 2025. Apple will be spending $60 million more per year than ESPN had been paying over the past seven years.

Apple TV’s agreement includes streaming every practice, qualifying, Sprint sessions and Grand Prix event, with some of the races streaming for free, which is a similar carveout in the company’s deal with Major League Soccer (MLS). Practices will also be free to anyone who does not have an Apple TV subscription.

Apple will lean in even more to its Formula 1 commitment by promoting races on its various platforms and services, including Apple News and Apple Fitness+. Fans can check real-time updates via the Apple Sports app.

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali claimed that Apple is “more than a platform, it’s a social movement,” adding that his company and Apple have a “shared vision” to expand F1 and invite new fans into the sport.

We have a shared vision to bring this amazing sport to our fans in the US and entice new fans through live broadcasts, engaging content and a year-round approach to keep them hooked. We know the power of what Apple can do…Apple is more than a platform. It’s a social movement.

Multiple streaming services, including Prime Video, Peacock, Paramount+, HBO Max and ESPN+, have secured the rights to stream various sporting events in recent years. Netflix has also streamed National Football League (NFL) games and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) events.

Apple made a huge 10-year commitment to MLS starting in 2023 that moved all the league’s soccer matches from broadcast channels to the streaming platform, but some games have been made available on linear TV after the fact.

Apple also has a deal with Major League Baseball (MLB) for Friday Night Baseball games. However, recent reports claimed that the agreement will not be renewed after 2025.

Now the Steve Jobs-founded company is adding another sporting event to its roster via Formula 1. Pitt’s film F1 seemed to be the catalyst that proved to Apple executives the popularity of the sport and the power of its fans. Along with Pitt, F1 also starred Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem and Tobias Menzies.

Not only was F1 a hit at the box office, but the film also received mostly positive reviews from critics, with an 82% score on Rotten Tomatoes (and a 97% audience score). A sequel is rumored to be in development; nothing official has been announced yet. Until then, fans can watch and re-watch F1 on Apple TV in December.
