A woman has shared a video on TikTok revealing that the tiny button on car mirrors actually has a function, and people are stunned they never knew about it before
We all fancy ourselves as driving pros, confident in our knowledge of the road rules and safety behind the wheel.
However, it turns out there’s always room for a bit of an education on the features of our cars. A TikTok user, called chequanxiaoqiao, has left people gobsmacked by revealing the actual purpose of the mysterious little button on car mirrors.
In her viral video, she points out that this overlooked feature is known to only about 5% of drivers. She said: “The lights of the rear car are too dazzling when driving at night. We just need to press this little wrench under the rear view mirror – you can turn on the anti-glare function.”

For those who’ve never spotted this nifty gadget, it might resemble a power switch. And, since it’s a relatively recent addition to vehicles, many are unaware of its existence. Yet, it serves a vital role, especially when driving at night, as the auto-dimming mechanism helps to reduce the glare from headlights of vehicles trailing behind.
This “secret” tab isn’t widely recognized – but, now that you’re in the know, it’s bound to become an invaluable tool for clearer vision during night-time journeys. The video has racked up over 800,000 views since it hit the internet, sparking a flurry of comments.
While some viewers were utterly amazed, others suggested that a brush-up on their theory might be in order. One viewer remarked: “Wait a minute. You mean to tell me there was an anti-glare function all the nights I nearly drove off the road.”
Another chimed in with: “Why am I learning this now?” And a third replied: “My car doesn’t have half of these.”
Although, when it comes to the tips she shared, there were some who thought she was just stating the obvious. A commenter posted: “People with common sense know all this stuff.”
In agreement, another wrote: “I’m sorry, but I literally knew every single one of these. Anyone that doesn’t need to get checked.”
