Ryan Murphy recently made an appearance at the world premiere of his new show, All’s Fair. This is the creator’s second collaboration with Kim Kardashian, who will portray Allura Grant in the series, whose first scripted role was in American Horror Story season 12 (Delicate). While the pair worked really well together, his rep revealed that things between him and the Kardashians weren’t always so smooth.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporterthe director stated that he once pitched an idea for a reality TV show to Kim and her mom, Kris Jenner. He recalled going to Jenner’s house with something that he was really optimistic about. Unfortunately, the mother-daughter duo did not think so. Kardashian seemed so unimpressed that she pulled out her phone.
I went to Kris’ house and I did something I’ve never done in my career, which was I brought a reality pitch, and it wasn’t good. I started my pitch, and I was kind of excited. Anyone in the future who pitches to Kim, you’ve lost Kim when she starts texting on her phone.
Jenner, on the other hand, was significantly nicer about the failed pitch. She even used it as an opportunity to try to land her daughter a part in one of his shows. According to Murphy, she told him, “That was really good, sweetie, but you should write a role for Kim.” And she was successful. While the character Siobhan Corbyn in American Horror Story wasn’t written for her, the creator did have a hand in casting her.
However, the creator did not take the rejection personally. One of his reps stated that Murphy had always loved the Kardashian family both personally and professionally. He commended their work ethic and generosity.
Ryan has been a big fan of Kim’s for a long time. He loves her Hulu show, The Kardashiansnor do we all do, and the fact that Kim is savvy. She has the most incredible work ethic. And just like her remarkable mother, Kris Jenner, she is remarkably kind and generous.
After their first project together, Murphy enjoyed working with her so much that he offered her to collaborate with him again for All’s Fair. He explained that it shocked him when Kardashian agreed to work with him at all because of their different backgrounds in the entertainment industry. So, he was pleasantly surprised when she agreed.
I was so curious about her because she has a huge life. She has a huge, wonderful family. I was so startled that she would agree to do this. When asked why, she said, ‘because it’s iconic, and I like iconic shit,’ which is very Kim.
All’s Fair is Hulu’s upcoming legal drama, created by Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz, and Joe Baken. It will feature many big actors who will star alongside Kardashian. The cast includes Glenn Close (Dina Standish), Naomi Watts (Liberty Ronson), Sarah Paulson (Carrington Lane), Niecy Nash-Betts (Emerald Greene), and Teyana Taylor (Milan).
All’s Fair will debut on Hulu on November 4, 2025.
