We’ve been in desperate need of Chanel for the past 19 years and, thank God, it’s coming. A sequel to 2006’s The Devil Wears Prada is officially on the way. Like, wardrobe is ready, cameras are rolling, Anne Hathaway is in a trailer rechanneling her Andy Sachs (probably). Runway magazine is back in the office, and baby, she’s printing pages.

Below, everything we know about what’s going to be in season for the sequel, including when production started filming and the new faces joining the cast.

Everyone is coming back for seconds: Meryl Streep, Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are all reprising their roles from the original film. Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman will also return as Andy’s friend Lily and Elias-Clark chairman Irv Ravitz, respectively. Last time we saw the editorial department, Miranda Priestly (Streep) was still the editor-in-chief, Andy (Hathaway) started a new job at a newspaper, Emily (Blunt) still worked at Runwayand Nigel (Tucci) also still worked there Runway — sigh. Hopefully, we’ll see some promotions in the new film.

Runway is increasing its staff. Lady Gaga is making her return to movies after the underperformance of Joker: Folie à Deux. It’s unknown whether she’s playing a character or simply being Gaga. Kenneth Branagh comes in as Miranda’s husband. The full cast now also includes a new movie star, Lucy Liu, and The Leftovers‘s Justin Theroux, The Office star BJ Novak, and Sex Lives of College Girls‘s Pauline Chalamet, for Variety. Bridgerton‘s Simone Ashley will also star — and hopefully this time, her scenes stay in the movie. Broadway divas Helen J. Shen from Maybe Happy Ending and Oh, Mary!‘s Conrad Ricamora will be joined by comedian Caleb Hearon.

Official details are slim, but according to that Varietythe sequel is centered on the decline of the magazine-publishing industry and how it affects Miranda’s career; she squares off against Emily, who is now a high-powered executive at an advertising agency. Nor for everyone else… the rest is still unwritten (or at least unknown to us).

Given that the first film has the single greatest fashion montage of all time, set to Madonna’s “Vogue,” people are going to expect a lot out of the looks. Anne Hathaway teased the first costume so far in an Instagram post on July 21, showing off Andy in pin-striped suit pants and vest, with a string of pearls and a gold chain. She captioned the post “Andy Sachs 2025 #dwp2.” It’s hot. Now show us Emily!

20th Century Studios confirmed on June 30 that production has started on the sequel. David Frankel and Aline Brosh McKenna, who directed and wrote the first film, return. While paps caught the set in New York, the crew also went to Italy for Milan Fashion Week. It was there that Miranda Priestly met Anna Wintour for the first time.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 comes out on May 1, 2026. A new movie for spring? Groundbreaking.
