Imbabi added that Law No. 177 of 2023 gives the Minister of Finance the authority to increase the prices of cigarettes by 12% annually for a period of five years, which means that any new increases in cigarette prices will not occur before November 2025.

Ibrahim Al -Imbaby, head of the Division of Industries, denied what was reported regarding the presence of new increases in cigarette prices before a past month, stressing that the official prices have not witnessed any amendment by manufacturers or the competent authorities.

He added that some merchants may take advantage of the increase in the increase in the achievement of illegal profits by unofficially raising prices, which is an explicit violation that is being confronted in coordination with the supervisory bodies to ensure consumer protection.

The reason for increasing cigarette prices last November
In previous statements during November 2024, Ibrahim Imbabi explained that the increase that approved at the time came after the Ministry of Finance agreed to raise the maximum tax segments of cigarettes, according to what is provided for in the value -added tax law No. 177 of 2013, which allows an annual increase of 12%.
