Tharwat Swailem, spokesman for the Professional Clubs Association, announced the details of the Egyptian Premier League championship system for the 2025-2026 season, along with a number of regulatory decisions related to the current season, most notably the cancellation of the decline.
Swailem explained, in television statements, that the association decided to keep the form of the competition in the current season 2024-2025, with the cancellation of the decline, provided that a new system is applied as of the next season, which includes the establishment of the league in two phases: the first with a single round system for all clubs, followed by a second stage that is divided into two groups, the first includes 7 clubs competing for the title, while the second includes 14 teams struggling to stay.
He pointed out that the new season will witness the decline of 4 clubs to the second division league, in exchange for the rise of 3 clubs, as part of a gradual plan to reduce the number of league teams to 18 clubs in the coming seasons.
The association’s spokesman explained that the end of the new season will be on May 25, 2026, according to what is predetermined, praising the efforts of Taha Ezzat, director of the Competitions Committee, in adhering to the schedule of the competition.
Regarding the decision to cancel the decline, Swailem revealed that Ismaili was the main factor behind this decision, pointing out that Al -Ahly was the first club demanding the cancellation of the decline in order to preserve the presence of the Dervish in the Premier League, and led a supportive front for this trend during the club meeting.
Swailem concluded his remarks by emphasizing that some decisions related to the two large clubs, Al -Ahly and Zamalek should not be issued individually, but rather after referring to the association’s board of directors to ensure transparency and achieve a balance between clubs.
